Karuna Healthcare's Stress Management Program
Although a little stress is healthy for us and helps us to function
at an optimum level, when the level of stress increases beyond a limit, it is
important to tackle it, before it leads to other personal and health problems.
Our body or mind undergoes stress when it has to stretch
beyond its capacity. The reasons for stress can be external, in the factors
that cause stress (stressors) - their amount, frequency, duration, severity,
co-occurrence, and timing of their occurrence. More often than not, the reasons
are also internal- in our own capacity to bear stress, our perception about the
situations and how we react.
Some of the health aspects of stress are frequent headaches,
improper sleep, dreams and nightmares, hormonal imbalances, irregular menses,
high or low blood pressure, unusual weight gain or loss, acidity, irregular and
inconsistent bowel movements, palpitations, unusual sensations and pains, dependency
on habit-forming substances like tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol, narcotic drugs,
and on medications like tranquilizers, sleeping pills, pain killers, antacids.
